Aphelinus mali Haldemann

Order: Hymenoptera  Family:Aphelinidae
Common name / Category:Parasitoid of apple woolly aphid Eriosoma lanigerum

Aphelinus mali has been introduced from England. It has been first colonized in Shimla (Himachal Pradesh). Subsequently it has spread to all the apple growing areas where Eriosoma lanigerum is a serious problem.

Production procedure

The parasitoid is produced on the potted plants of apple which are first infested with Eriosoma lanigerum and then exposed to Aphelinus mali. The parasitoid has not been produced on a large scale but sufficient quantities are produced for inoculative releases.
